Freezers Narrowly Lose Season Opener

As the opening match of FC Whitehorse's second CSL season came to a close, the Freezers find themselves in the loser's column. The club suffered a narrow 3-2 loss on the road against Swamp Dragons FC.

The Dragons opened the scoring in the 12th minute on a quick shot from striker Do Nascimenteca. The Freezers responded in the 15th minute as Kaidan Lemoine scored matching his goal total from last season in the first match. The clubs went into the locker rooms at halftime with that 1-1 score. In the second half, goals from Declan Rivera in the 72nd minute and Zétény Budai in the 75th gave the Dragons a 3-1 lead. Freezers' midfielder Dylon Lemaitre subbed on right after that 3rd goal, and immediately scored in the 77th minute to cut the deficit, but they were not able to complete the comeback.

Lemoine and defender Patrick Letour were both given yellow cards in the first half, as the game was a fairly physical one throughout. Zavala made a pair of saves in the match, as he was unfortunately beaten more often than he stopped shots.

Manager Oros Bala was a bit disappointed with the loss after the match. "It is tough to lose matches like that" said Bala. "I felt like we were close, but they did a better job of taking advantage of their opportunities. We will have to work on cutting off their openings, because they had a few too many great chances to score. More to be done for sure."

FC Whitehorse will host their match next week as Vandelay FC comes to the Ice Box. Vandelay were 2-0 winners today, beating Ontario Soccer Club at home.
